I oppose Bill 5. I want strong environmental protections and I oppose shortcuts for industry. I oppose the creation of special economic zones that will allow government to override laws and fast track projects without public oversight. I oppose the proposition that government can remove species from the list of endangered and at-risk species, despite the recommendations of a scientific body. I am opposed to the narrow definition of habitat that is proposed, and the removal of harassment from the law. I am also extremely concerned about the lack of respect for the rights and roles of Indigenous people in protecting the environment and having decision-making power regarding their own land. I believe a registration-first approach tramples on the right of Indigenous people to provide free, prior, and informed consent.
