I've signed a petition regarding this issue, adding my name to thousands of others. But I feel very strongly about the subject of repealing environmental and indigenous protections in Ontario. So I am writing directly.
We love sci-fi media depicting the terraforming of barren, hostile planets into habitable ones. But those are fiction! The fact is that removing protections for our environment is doing the exact opposite: turning a beautiful, lush, green paradise into an inhospitable ugly wasteland of asphalt and concrete.
I implore Ontario's government to reject Bill 5.
Instead, we need to take every measure possible to protect our environment so we can thrive alongside it. Preserve our endangered species. Use our resources responsibly. Protect our water. Respect the indigenous peoples. Isn't that a better legacy than another highway? A more laudable achievement than a faceless row of condos and strip malls? A more visionary goal?
I repeat: Please, reject Bill 5. For the benefit of future generations.
