As an Ontarian I strongly oppose Bill 5, the protecting Ontario by unleashing Ontario act.
Ontario DID NOT vote for weaker environmental protections or less say in decisions that affect our land, water and future.
This is NOT modernization! It’s deregulation that puts short-term industrial gain ahead of long-term ecological and community health.
Bill 5 would silence community voices, marginalize science and erase decades of hard-won environmental progress.
I urge the Ontario government to withdraw Bill 5 in its entirety and instead work with environmental experts, indigenous leaders and the public to strengthen —NOT DISMANTLE—our systems of environmental protection.
Protecting nature is not a barrier to economic growth. It’s the foundation of a healthy, resilient and just society.
Please don’t sell us out to the highest bidder. Our natural spaces are so important for so many reasons for so many people. Even more than most of us know. We need our endangered species act to protect all of that now and into the future.
I am begging you to withdraw this Bill in its entirety.
Industry can’t be trusted to do what’s right over what’s profitable. That’s why we need these protections to prevent irreparable harm before it happens.
