No, unleashing our economy will not protect Ontario.
Most of us do whatever we can to make rent and feed our kids, even if it damages our ecosystems. Even though I think we all know, on some level, that a liveable future for humanity is at stake.
We need rules for our economy to not do further damage.
Catastrophic warnings from meticulous, international scientists, along with actuaries (risk experts!) and the IEA (energy experts!) among others, abound.
The Stockholm Resilience Centre tells us that 6 of the 9 planetary boundaries have been transgressed and that these boundaries are:
“interrelated processes within the complex biophysical Earth system. We cannot consider Planetary Boundaries in isolation.... Only by respecting all nine boundaries can we maintain the safe operating space for human civilization.”
Please see here - https://www.stockholmresilience.org/ - the interrelated biophysical processes that regulate the stability and resilience of the Earth systems that we all rely on.
To protect Ontario, we need to do more to protect endangered species, ecosystems, the natural world and the Web of Life we all rely on.
We need to leash our economy to that end.
Thank you for your attention to this.
