I strongly oppose the Ontario government’s proposed interim changes to the Endangered Species Act, 2007, and the introduction of the Species Conservation Act, 2025. These legislative shifts appear to prioritize rapid development over the preservation of our province’s rich biodiversity. These proposals undermine the foundational goals of the Endangered Species Act, which are to protect and recover species at risk. By facilitating development at the expense of environmental stewardship, the government risks irreversible damage to Ontario’s ecosystems. I urge the government to reconsider these changes.
