I strongly oppose the proposed bill to repeal Ontario’s Endangered Species Act. This legislation is one of our province’s last lines of defense for vulnerable wildlife and the ecosystems they depend on. Repealing it would not only place countless species at increased risk of extinction, but it would also jeopardize the health of our natural environment and the long-term wellbeing of future generations.
The ESA ensures science-based decision-making, habitat protection, and accountability. Replacing it with a weaker framework—particularly one designed to benefit developers or industry—would prioritize short-term economic gains over the lasting health of Ontario’s biodiversity. This is not progress; it is ecological negligence.
Ontarians deserve a government that protects the environment, not one that sacrifices it. I urge you to abandon this reckless proposal and uphold your responsibility to safeguard the natural heritage that belongs to all of us.
