I understand the importance of promoting economic development and increasing housing supply, but I am deeply concerned that this proposal weakens essential protections for species at risk and their habitats. What is the value of building more homes if doing so compromises ecological integrity and exposes future residents to significant environmental risks?

It is well-documented that large-scale ecological disruption driven by short-term economic gain contributes directly to climate change. This leads to an increase in the frequency and severity of extreme weather events such as wildfires, floods, and heatwaves — all of which pose serious threats to public health, safety, and well-being.

Canada cannot afford to follow the path of countries that have depleted their natural resources in the name of profit, only to undermine their long-term social and economic resilience. True prosperity requires a careful balance between development and sustainability. Weakening the Endangered Species Act and replacing it with more permissive mechanisms is a step in the wrong direction.

I respectfully urge the government to preserve and strengthen existing protections for biodiversity — not only as an ethical obligation to future generations but also as a necessary safeguard for the present and future well-being of all residents.
