Having reviewed the summary of the proposed changes to the current legislation, I disagree with the level of oversight that this will be removing. I fully understand the frustration with the time delays currently experienced due to the way things are set up today, but this proposal goes a little far in the other direction regarding Government discretion vs. Outside groups or committees being included in decision making as well as some of the updated “Conservation Act” language.
I believe this is addressing the current issues at the right start point but goes a little too far on cutting the red tape. The red tape though annoying is there for a reason and I don’t believe the solutions proposed here, will suffice in ensuring no detriment to the environment can or will occur; when removing the red tape in the current policy.
Therefore I oppose Bill 5 in its current proposed state.
