Dear Premier Ford and Members of the Ontario Legislature,

I am writing to strongly oppose the proposed interim changes to the Endangered Species Act, 2007 and the introduction of the Species Conservation Act, 2025. These policies threaten not only Ontario’s biodiversity but also enable man-made environmental disasters under the guise of “economic growth.” This is environmental deregulation that prioritizes profit over people—particularly benefitting wealthy developers while putting low- to middle-income communities at greater risk.

By weakening habitat protections, removing recovery strategies, and bypassing meaningful consultation—especially with Indigenous communities—these changes contribute to environmental injustice and ecocide. Indigenous peoples, who have been stewards of this land for generations, are being sidelined once again in favor of short-term industrial gain.

This legislation does not serve the majority of Ontarians. It serves those with the most power and wealth, while everyday people inherit the consequences: polluted land, water insecurity, and increased exposure to climate-related disasters.

I urge you to withdraw these harmful proposals and instead implement policies rooted in science, equity, and Indigenous rights.
