I find the repealing of the Endangered Species Act egregious. You are narrowing the definition of habitat making it as small as a den or nest and the immediate root system of plants, which is far less than needed to survive. You are eliminating the requirements to create a strategy to recover at risk species. The vast and sweeping proposed changes will move Ontario away from a science-based approach to protecting species at risk to one that relies on industry and developers’ voluntary and discretionary approaches. Even the recognition that species are endangered would be placed at the discretion of the current government.
