I oppose bill 5. Species at risk in Ontario need enhanced protections, not less. Allowing the government to remove species from the list is a terrible idea and makes it a partisan list, not based on research and science. It opens up the opportunity for political lobbyists and developers to use their connections in government to have species removed from the list, without a basis in fact. The government needs to rely on science and experts in these situations, to avoid any implications of impropriety or influence from persons with a vested interest. Additionally, I oppose any special short cuts for industry or developers - we have done enough damage to the environment and natural habitats in this Province over the last century. These laws were put in place to save what is left. I respectfully ask that Bill 5 not be passed.
