I applaud the Ford government for taking steps to address housing and development issues. However, making changes to the Endangered Species act is not the way to do this. Any regulations that are in place have been put there for a reason, and sacrificing the health of our increasingly fragile ecosystem is not worth short-term gains. Doug Ford’s premiership has proven to be resilient - he has been in power for some time, and there is no sign that he will be deposed anytime soon. He is in a position to be able to think in the long term and I ask him to do that now. You have smart people working on this - find a solution that does not threaten endangered species that are essential to our ecosystem.
