I strongly oppose Bill 5, the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act, which threatens Ontario’s environment, democratic rights, and Indigenous sovereignty.
Repealing the Endangered Species Act and replacing it with vague, unenforceable goals will accelerate the decline of at-risk wildlife and ecosystems. This is not progress — it’s dangerous deregulation that sacrifices long-term wellbeing for short-term profit.
The bill also creates “special economic zones” that bypass environmental assessments, public input, and Indigenous consultation. This undermines transparency, accountability, and treaty obligations.
Ontarians deserve stronger environmental protections and meaningful participation in decisions that shape our future — not weakened laws and silenced voices.
I urge the government to withdraw Bill 5 and instead collaborate with experts, Indigenous communities, and the public to strengthen environmental safeguards. A healthy economy depends on a healthy environment.
