I strongly oppose Bill 5 in Ontario. Protecting endangered species is crucial for maintaining biodiversity and the health of our ecosystems. This protection should not come at the expense of development. Bill 5 proposes to repeal the Endangered Species Act and replace it with the Species Conservation Act, which significantly weakens habitat protections and clears the way for development in sensitive areas. I stand with environmental experts that have raised concerns that this bill is a death sentence for many species. I oppose this bill which undermines nearly 20 years of progress in protecting nature, which is essential for clean water, clean air, and healthy ecosystems. The government has a responsibility to safeguard our natural heritage for future generations. This is NOT sustainable development.
