I vehemently oppose Bill 5.
Safeguards and regulations for environmental protections should remain strong. The creation of 'special economic zones', which allow industrial and commerical interests to override ecological protections is not only something I disagree with, but would lead to the deterioration of local plant and wildlife. In the long term, the results could be disastrous not only for these specific regions but for Ontario as a whole.
I oppose providing shortcuts to industry, allowing them to bypass laws that remain in place for the rest of Ontarians. Not because their interests would be good for Ontario, but because they care only for their profit. Short term or long term profit should never be more important than the ecological and environment health of our province.
This bill is a blatant attempt to steamroll environmental safeguards for the sake of wealthy individuals obtaining more wealth. I could not be more opposed to its passing.
