I am writing to object in the strongest possible way to the proposed exemptions from the Environmental Bill of Rights that will remove the right of Ontarians to be advised of, or to comment on, any required permits at Ontario Place, on or off site, to support the project.

The Environmental Bill of Rights exists to ensure that Ontario's environment in all its forms is protected for future generations. As this applies to Ontario Place, thousands of Ontarians have spoken out about their concerns related to protection of this fragile waterfront ecosystem. They have provided well-informed, intelligent commentary along with realistic and reasonable alternatives to the government's current plans. This move not only deprives citizens of their rights but the government of valuable community knowledge.

The proposal is not in the interest of the people of Ontario or the Environment of Ontario. It compromises the future of this critical waterfront site and serves only to benefit the private interests of foreign companies. Instead it represents one more compromise in environmental protection, and citizen's rights to be informed, at a time when Ontario along with the rest of the planet is facing a climate and biodiversity crisis.

This is also an attack on Democracy because it goes against the will of the people of Ontario. It will be used beyond Ontario Place in the future so that NO Environmental Assessment or Protection will have to be taken into account for any project, which history has repeatedly shown to be Extremely detrimental to the health & wellbeing of both Humans and the Environment. Humans tend to think that we live outside or separately from the Environment, but we actually live IN the Environment, so if we destroy the Environment we destroy the ENTIRE HUMAN RACE. If we can’t breathe the air or drink the water because we polluted it then how is the Human Race supposed to live on planet Earth? Everybody, Everywhere needs to protect the Environment not only for future generations, but for ourselves as well because once we get past the tipping point things are going to get really bad, really quickly and we don’t know how close to the tipping point that we currently are, so Bill 5 plays Russian Roulette with the all of lives of the people in Ontario.
