I strongly oppose Ontario’s Bill 5 — a dangerous and short-sighted piece of legislation that threatens our environment, our communities, and the future of this province.

Bill 5 strips away critical protections under the Endangered Species Act and bulldozes over essential oversight and approval processes for infrastructure projects. This is not about “cutting red tape.” It is about gutting the safeguards that protect Ontario’s green spaces, wildlife habitats, and natural heritage for generations to come. It is an open invitation to reckless development at the expense of the public good.

By fast-tracking projects without proper environmental reviews, Bill 5 deliberately ignores scientific evidence, public consultation, and basic common sense. It will have devastating consequences — destroying habitats, polluting our air and water, accelerating biodiversity loss, and permanently reducing the amount of natural green space available to Ontarians.

The people of Ontario did not ask for this. We deserve sustainable growth that respects our environment, not a government that hands over our shared natural resources to the highest bidder. Bill 5 is a betrayal of the public trust, a giveaway to private interests, and a moral failure of leadership.

I call for the immediate withdrawal of Bill 5. Ontario’s future depends on protecting the land, air, and water we all share — not selling them off under the false banner of “progress.” We must not allow short-term profits to outweigh the long-term health of our environment and communities.

We deserve better. And we must demand better.
