Commenting as someone who has worked closely with infrastructure departments for local governments, as well as someone who has significant education and experience as a professional biologist I can resolutely say this proposed bill will have devastating effects.
Not only will a disregard of endangered and threatened species have significant detrimental effects on the local environment, the destruction of habitat for endangered species will have negative effects on global biodiversity.
Governing and advisory bodies such as COSEWIC which oversee decision making in regards to our natural world are basing these "overly long and complicated processes" on crucial professional, local, and traditional knowledge.
If catastrophic effects to the environment are not convincing enough, lack of accessible green spaces are considered an socioeconomic deprivation and can negatively affect the sale prices of residential and commercial developments.
I cannot in good conscience do anything but denounce this bill and hope for the sake of Canada's natural landscapes that it does not pass.
