I am writing you today in regards to the proposed legislation of eliminating the Ontario Endangered Species Act (ESA) which is crucial for protecting and recovering species at risk of extinction in the province. Here's why I believe the ESA is important:
*It protects species at risk
*It promotes biodiversity
*It ensures ecosystem health
*It promotes stewardship and recovery
*It helps to address climate change
In summary, the Ontario Endangered Species Act is a crucial tool for protecting biodiversity, maintaining ecosystem health, and ensuring the well-being of the environment for current and future generations. It provides a framework for identifying, protecting, and recovering species at risk, promoting stewardship, and addressing the impacts of human activities on wildlife and their habitats.
I implore you to reconsider supporting the registration only approach for new projects. Development cannot come at the cost of natural, and often sensitive, environments in Ontario and the species that depend on them.
Sincerely,
Cindy Dove
