The proposed Bill fails to provide adequate protections and safeguards for our environment and endangered species. In fact, it outright overrides and bypasses existing protections for the seemingly selfish interests of private developers.
The proposed Bill grants the provincial government far too much discretionary power concerning the extraction of precious resources and the prioritization of economic gain. Furthermore, the proposed bill possesses a severe lack of demonstrated support from the citizens of Ontario. As such, I firmly believe that Bill 5 should be scrapped. Otherwise, the bill would need to revised and include more protections for our environment. This isn’t just cutting red tape, it’s sacrificing our environment for financial growth. We have these laws in place for a reason… no governing authority should possess such unilateral, unchecked power.
