Bill 5 needs to be stopped. I have deep concerns about the government’s lack of seriousness on the protection of endangered species. The government is more focused on bulldozing and building with little regard for wildlife and the environment. This has been made clear with the overnight secretive bulldozing of the land and trees at Ontario Place, effectively destroying the habitat of countless species including migratory birds. The site is a recognized migratory route. The government saw that as irrelevant.
Bill 5 gives the government the ability to decide which species are threatened and allows disruptive practices to be started with only registration, no oversight.
I am fully against the proposed changes to the endangered species act. Once damage is done to a habitat or species there is no going back. Too much risk in the name of ‘progress’.
