As a deeply concerned resident of Ontario to oppose the proposed amendments to the Endangered Species Act, 2007. These changes reflect a dangerous shift, one that prioritizes short-term development interests and economic gain over our collective responsibility to care for the land, its ecosystems, and the species who depend on them to survive.
This land holds a sacred and reciprocal relationship with all beings, a relationship that predates this government and is central to many Indigenous worldviews. Any decision that weakens protections for endangered species and their habitats also disregards Indigenous knowledge systems, stewardship practices, and treaty responsibilities. It further perpetuates a colonial legacy of extraction and dispossession, where the health of the land is continuously sacrificed for greedy industrial benefit.
Ontario’s biodiversity is not a resource to be traded away, it is a living, breathing network of relations. The original purpose of the Endangered Species Act was to defend this delicate balance. Gutting it for the sake of development is not only short-sighted but morally indefensible.
I strongly urge you to listen to Indigenous leaders, scientists, environmental defenders, and us citizens across the province who are saying NO to these changes. Protect the act. Protect the land. Protect the beings who cannot speak for themselves but who have every right to thrive alongside us.
