I understand the need for the development of social and economic sectors of Ontario. However, as an individual who has achieved their Bachelors of Science in Biology, I am deeply sadden and gravely concerned for the future of Ontario if we reduce/remove the current Endangered Species Act.
I beg of you to truly reconsider the impact this will have on our environment and invite you to recall the importance of One Health to our everyday lives. These species have been here longer than we have but just like the government has done to the Indigenous peoples of Canada, we are driving out the Indigenous ecosystems. With changes in the environment due to global warming, this can have grave consequences on human health as well as the developments you plan to create in Ontario. Without these ecosystems, which act as a natural reservoir, we could see an increase in flooding. Without these wildlife species, we could see an increase in “more undesirable pests” in our communities, i.e. an increase in rodent populations since they no longer have a predator species after them nor their homes in the wild.
It it to my understanding that our Premier has not even achieved a college level of education. I truly hope that other members of his political party are not following suit. If so, the future of Ontario could be in shambles. I believe that there are other solutions to developing the social and economic sectors of Ontario before this proposed idea. Let’s start there.
