While this proposal sounds good in theory, I am concerned that in practice there will be a lack of care in the projects that are registered, resulting in unforeseen consequences that will backfire on residents. I do not see any mention of how the updated definitions protect for migratory paths for species. Will this mean projects will be built in the path of migratory species? That will result in human-species conflict down the line, and further disrupt the affected species. Finding efficiencies between the federal and provincial acts to prevent duplication of work sounds good. But leaving the duty of care to the applicant sounds like a recipe for disaster and for unforeseen circumstances to arise in future. It also makes it more difficult to get accountability from the responsible parties. How will this all be mitigated?
