I strongly oppose Bill 5. Ontario needs stronger environmental protections, not weaker ones. We are already sacrificing too many vulnerable ecosystems to the interests of Big Industry. This Bill would abandon Ontario’s commitment to protecting species and ensuring their recovery. The new Act would replace the strict criteria for habitat protection with a discretionary regime that would, in turn, offer very limited protection to only a fraction of the habitats species need to survive and recover. This is not acceptable. This not a step forward, it is a step back.
