It seems like the ministry of the environment, CONSERVATION, and parks, doesn't want to do much conserving. Environmental protections are vitally important and species at risk are at risk because of human interference in their habitats. There are no species in Ontario that are at risk because of their own mistakes, it has all been habitat loss caused by humans. And you want to accelerate that?
Many species at risk are keystone species, those that have a disproportionate impact on their ecosystem should they fail.
Did you know that all turtles in Ontario are species at risk? All of them! Even snapping turtles! Those classifications were based off sound science and research. Gutting the ESA is based off what? Whims of developers? Meeting a bottom line? How soulless. We have so much wildlife in Ontario, and not treating natural environments with respect is going to lead to a poisoned province, unproductive forests, and a major loss of ecosystem services. Its a slippery slope and you've just decided to take a toboggan down.
Talk to one (1) ecologist. Or twenty! They will all say the same thing. This is a bad idea.
