I oppose Bill 5 because it prioritizes corporate and government interests at the expense of Ontario’s people, environment, and wildlife. First, it guts the Endangered Species Act and replaces it with weaker protections, leaving vulnerable animals and habitats exposed to unchecked development.
Second, it strips communities of their right to legal recourse by extinguishing causes of action and blocking lawsuits against harmful government and corporate decisions.
Third, it allows the government to override local laws and environmental regulations in designated “special economic zones,” undermining local democracy and putting public health and ecosystems at risk.
