Bill 5 continues a trend of deregulation and sprawl-friendly policy that is not only environmentally reckless but economically outdated. Ontarians need:
• Stable environmental protections that support responsible development,
• Investments in renewable energy and efficient public transit,
• A pivot from sprawl to infill and mid-rise housing,
• Protection of farmland and food security,
• Strong rule-of-law governance—not arbitrary political exemptions.
I agree that Ontario needs to respond seriously to the threat of U.S. economic aggression. But gutting our laws and concentrating power in the Premier’s Office is not protection—it’s capitulation. If anything, it makes Ontario more vulnerable to special interests, both domestic and foreign.
