I oppose industry / infrastructure being fast-tracked over environmental protections of Ontario wildlife and species - especially endangered ones. This act is shortsighted, in its opposition to climate change which is a greater threat to the province’s future. We do a terrible job now finding ways to equally prioritize nature and infrastructure and we’re seeing evidence of nature punching back …this government has not proven it has the intelligence, creativity or strategic mindset that will enable an equally resilient environment and industry flourishing. It’s foolish to put one over the other instead of serving both equally. Examples of this governments failures include removal of watershed protections prior to summer floods of 2024 and the uptick in coyote attacks after the destruction of Ontario place forests. Proactive environmental resiliency strategies should be an economic driver of jobs in sectors of fire, flood prevention respectively as well as farming and home construction through in-fill strategies in urban and suburban settings vs rural farm land takeover.
