I strongly oppose Bill 5 as it poses a serious threat to Ontario’s environment, ecosystems, and long-term sustainability. This legislation undermines the role of environmental oversight, weakens protections for our green spaces and natural resources, and prioritizes short-term development at the cost of long-term ecological health.

Ontario is already facing the impacts of climate change—flooding, extreme weather, loss of biodiversity—and now is the time to strengthen, not weaken, environmental protections. Bill 5 risks opening the door to unchecked development, threatening wetlands, conservation areas, and the Greenbelt. These spaces are not only vital to Ontario’s biodiversity but also essential for clean water, air, and flood prevention.

I urge the government to halt Bill 5 and commit to meaningful public consultation, Indigenous engagement, and science-based environmental policy. Ontarians care deeply about the environment and expect their leaders to act in the best interest of both present and future generations.
