Public Comment on Proposed Interim Changes to the Endangered Species Act, 2007 and the Proposed Species Conservation Act, 2025

I strongly oppose the proposed interim changes to the Endangered Species Act, 2007 and the introduction of the Species Conservation Act, 2025. These changes appear to prioritize short-term economic gain over the long-term health of our ecosystems and biodiversity. They will weaken protections for Ontario's most vulnerable species and open the door to increased industrial development in ecologically sensitive areas.

Rather than strengthening our commitment to conservation, this proposal seems to be yet another cash grab by Premier Doug Ford’s government, catering to developers and private interests at the expense of our shared natural heritage. Water, air, forests, and wildlife are not commodities—they are vital to our well-being, and protecting them should be a priority, not an afterthought.

Ontario deserves strong, science-based environmental policy, not legislation that fast-tracks destruction under the guise of “conservation.” I urge you to reconsider this harmful direction and prioritize real protection for endangered species and their habitats.
