I am extremely concerned about Bill 5's repeal of the Endangered Species Act (2007).
The proposed Species Conservation Act's provisions are too narrow to protect endangered species and will ultimately result in their extirpation as the definition of habitat is too narrow and does not take into account that species require more than a den or nest or root system to survive.
The province must follow evidence-based practices to preserve and protect endangered species. Once they are gone, they are gone and the consequences of the loss of biodiversity are irreversible.
It is possible to have development while still protecting the environment for ourselves and future generations. Please reconsider this destructive bill.
