Mr. Ford, I was very upset and angry when I heard that you wanted to rush the opening of this dump in our community as you said this is an emergency situation. You have decided that since Tariffs have been implemented on the garbage being taken to Michigan, Dresden dump should be opened and in use ASAP therefore foregoing the Environmental study that was promised to our community. I am sure that if the study was done, the dump would not be allowed in this area. This is a small viable farming community. The soil is rich and grows a large variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, life stock and feed. The dump you are proposing is within walking distance to a historical town and not only is there many young families living here, but also many retired seniors. The closeness of this dump to the community, the sydenham river and all it's tributaries and occupied homes within metres of the site is not only worrisome to the area but to everyone for several miles. The stinge from the dump, the ground seepage with pollution to the surrounding farms as the contaminated water will travel through the rivers and streams and quickly end up in the great lakes, not to mention the groundwater that so many of the farmers still use for their homes, livestock and irrigation via personal water wells are all things we DO NOT WANT!!!!. (A ground water well is our source of drinking water on our home farm.) We also must consider the increase of trucks on the road within a farming community which will come in contact with the slow moving farm tractors, combines and etc and the School Buses. Seniors in the area and the children are not used to this amount of traffic and seeing the speeds the trucks drive from the 402 to the Petrolia dump is very scary. They are always in a rush and do not slow down for anyone or any thing. I believe people should have the right to dictate what their community should allow and what it should be able to refuse. Maybe if people in the Toronto and the surrounding area did a better job recycling, composting and reusing you would not be in this bind. I am also sure that if you really checked your locality you would find a place for your own waste and garbage. You have more areas which contain rock and would be more condusant for storing garbage. Maybe one of your lovely parks could become your dump. Not only would we be happy but money would be saved on the trucking. Toronto area should take care of their own garbage. We do not want it. You must listen to our demands and to the ERO as promised. I personally voted for you as I felt you were an honest, caring down to earth person. I now see you for who you are and doubt if you will ever be my choice again! Please find it in your heart to order the Environmental assessment study. At the end of the day, we do NOT want your garbage, waste, etc. , now or ever. Do not make your problem our problem!
