This proposal directly impacts the protection in place for Ontario's natural biodiversity. Considering we are living through a climate crisis- Harming our biodiversity will only worsen it.

It is proven that strong biodiversity helps limit the effects of climate change. Many naturally occurring ecosystems act as carbon sinks. It stops carbon from floating into the atmosphere and directly contributing to our warming climate.

This proposal seeks to shrink the definition of a habit. Their surrounding dwelling space. This simply does not encapsule what these animals need to survive.

Animals have hunting and feeding grounds far from their dwelling space. Migratory species need safe places to rest. Shrinking it will drastically lessen the effectiveness of the Endangered Species Act.

This bill likewise effects populations of people who rely on these species of animals. More often than not, this will negatively effect Ontario's indigenous people population.

Considering this is a bill proposed to protect our economy, It is proven a worsening climate will effect the economy. Take pollinators for example. Bees and other pollinators are at risk of diseases, plastics and pesticides. Expects warn if we lose these key pollinators, our system of agriculture will collapse. This is one example out of many.

We protect our economy by protecting our climate.

We should have a focus on sustainability, building alternatives proven to work, rather than push for archaic systems in a world that can no longer survive them. The endangers species act has brought keystone species back from the brink. This is a system that works, with the time needing for these permits being vital to assure species in recovery won't be harmed.

I urge this proposal to be dismissed.
