This is a highly complex bill which the average Ontario resident (which I am) has barely the time to read much less understand fully. One aspect I do fully understand is the fact that it calls for the repeal of Ontario's Endangered Species Act, replacing it with a much-less protective "species conservation act." This is absolutely wrong. The extinction rate of wildlife species has become a true planetary emergency, and this bill will exacerbate the problem by reducing legislative oversight. This is a chance to show that Canada, and Ontario in particular, recognizes our responsibility to the non-humans with which we share this planet, and upon whom our own well-being largely depends. DO NOT PASS BILL 5.
