This act is a fraud, trying to claim that it widens protections and is going to “improve upon the Species at Risk Stewardship Program” while not having a replacement program created or ready to enact. It’s just a false promise with no footing and I’m disappointed that this is something that anyone would even consider proposing. At the speed companies can start infrastructure today it would easily be able to cover up any “potential violations” or destroy any unwanted environments that would fit under your “core protections essential to conservation of the species”. Removing the concept of “harass” when it comes to animals habitat and surrounding environments, this both undermines the animals you claim you are trying to protect as a whole but also those who live in the surrounding areas. This both will cause more population displacement among many different animals, moving them into areas where humans live or into the habitat of other populations. The new definition of habitat is a watered down and ridiculously oversimplified understanding of the topic and something that a child could design. This isn't what we want from our conservation efforts, what we currently have is not even enough and is still very lacking in many regards. But something that both contradicts itself and is self serving in purpose like this act, isn't something anyone with a tiny bit of environmental consciousness would approve of after fully reading.
