I strongly oppose Bill 5. The Endangered Species Act is vital to assess the damage that could be done to vulnerable species and their habitats before commencing construction to ensure their protection. The proposed replacement of the Endangered Species Act with the Species Conservation Act will only do harm to the wildlife of Ontario. If passed, Bill 5 will gut the environmental assessment processes and allow for developers to proceed without fully understanding the harm that will be done to endangered species. Canada is already failing to meet its Paris Agreement targets, this bill further denigrates our commitment to the ecosystems we are dependant on and the future of our next generations. I want stronger protections for endangered species and their habitats. I oppose shortcuts for industry without public oversight, and I oppose overriding the law in special economic zones.
