This proposal is a strict and blatant reduction in environmental protections, for the sake of corporate profit, at a time of ecological crisis. The devolution of conservation funding to 'voluntary initiatives' is an abandonment of the responsibility I expect government to take, and the 'more efficient' processes for removal of species from protected lists cannot be spun as anything except an opportunity to disregard scientific expertise. The specific removal of "harassment" of animals from the list of relevant activities is a particularly petty erosion of protections.
Ontario, and all of Canada, should be taking pride in the strength of our stewardship of our land for generations to come, not discarding it for a quick buck.
