I am really concerned about the thought process behind something like this.
1) Re: COSSARO: saying that the COSSARO will still exist however the GOVERNMENT has the ability to add or remove species really gives the government an inflated sense of self. We have experts in this area that are schooled, educated and know what they are doing.
2) Changing the term Habitat: to add to your point that it's "confusing" about what is included in the habitat and what isn't; This is not confusing and there are clear relationships with the species den, how that relates to the health of a local water source, food source, and how the surrounding habitat impacts the neighboring ecosystem. i.e. a wetland, and the ripple effects of up and down stream changes. There are certain conditions that a species selects and by destroying surrounding areas there is a ripple effect
3) Starting work as soon as registered / having a permit and going ahead and "killing", capturing, trading.. etc - these words have a clear disrespect for the species and individuals you are speaking of
4) It is very clear that the people supporting this change do not see the value in our natural world. I am not sure what would change your mind. You do not see how your well being, water, your life relates and is impacted by these species.
5) I do not trust the provincial idea of a Species Conservation Act and I feel more comfortable having Federal impact. The Federal election was made clear that Ontarians do care and we value our federal partners.
6) Remove the governments need for recovery strategies and statements - basically do whatever they want based on your own rules and those rules encompass that you do not care about wildlife.
7) This should have been part of your provincial election platform however I believe that you know it would cause a problem.
8) Removing an advisory committee of real experts does not seem appropriate, valid or well thought out however it seems that speaking to experts is something this government does not see as valuable.
9) Why are you removing harassment? This has not been explained.
10) Yes, work with the Indigenous communities absolutely. However I am concerned about the members of the public that you prefer to work with and consult with. They are likely not including anyone that has an issue with this idea.
Do not do this. Do not attack Endangered species and our precious wildlife. Do not do this.
