I think this proposal is wildly out of touch with what is actually needed. The Ontario Housing Affordability Task Force recommendations in 2022 clearly stated that the issue is the poor use of currently available land rather than a lack of land for housing. Yet all the Ontario governments suggestions lately have been to open protected areas up to development rather than changing zoning laws. At best it implies that the government doesn't know what it's doing, and at worst, that there is backroom deals involved. Killing off endangered species isn't going to fix the housing problem because it doesn't resolve any of the zoning or municipal government issues that are at the root of it. It's just more land to sell to developers who won't get to build anything for years.
This whole break things first and then deal with the problems later mentality is frankly a major problem with this current government. This act is just the latest in that vein.
