I am totally against this proposal. This proposal represents an unacceptable rollback of protections for species at risk, taking us back to before 1971 when only a few upper level members of government can make decisions behind closed doors about which species or habitats to protect or not. Permitting becomes completely discretionary, industry and developers are allowed to harass species in their habitat, the very tracking of species at risk and where they occur is no longer required. Since species at risk are a canary in the coalmine warning for long-term human health and prosperity, this proposal is another attack on the long-term prosperity of Ontarians.
