While balance between commercial requirements and environmental needs is important, I do not feel that government should be permitted to add or remove species from the COSSARO. What is the use of an independent science based body like COSSARO if the government can arbitrarily override it?
I do not agree with repealing the Endangered Species Act 2007. It was carefully put into place for a reason - all species are interconnected. By endangering one, you endanger us all.
The creation of Special Economic Zones (SEZ) without criteria that would be exempt from municipal and provincial law. Lands that could have an SEZ declared by the Minister could in theory include the Greenbelt, the Niagara Escarpment Plan and Provincial Parks and protected areas.
The archeological assessment requirements should continue to apply as well. This is standard practice in many modern countries. We have so little known history in Canada - we should not run ripshod over what little there is.
