As someone who has lived in Northern Ontario their whole life, I strongly oppose bill 5. I want stronger environmental protections and the continued protection of endangered species. Bill 5 is the exact opposite of that with the repeal of the endangered species act and sorry replacement for current mandatory habitat considerations.
I oppose shortcuts for industry and overriding the law in special economic zones. While our province needs economic prosperity and the development of the ring of fire is one way to accomplish this, shortcuts to development at the cost of the environment and the rights of indigenous peoples is not the way. This will ultimately hurt the people of this province.
