I am writing to firmly oppose the proposed exemptions from Ontario’s Environmental Bill of Rights regarding Ontario Place. These changes would effectively silence public input and transparency on permits related to this deeply significant site, both on and off its grounds.

Ontario Place is not just a parcel of land, it’s a vital part of our natural and cultural heritage, situated along an already vulnerable lakeshore ecosystem. The Environmental Bill of Rights was created to safeguard precisely this kind of public interest. Stripping away the public’s ability to be notified of and respond to environmental changes or permits is not just undemocratic-it’s dangerous.
Thousands of people across this province have voiced thoughtful, evidence-based concerns and alternative proposals. To disregard these voices is to treat citizen engagement as a nuisance rather than a resource. Moreover, prioritizing the interests of private, foreign developers over long-term environmental stewardship and the rights of Ontarians sets a chilling precedent.

This is not the direction a responsible government should be taking, especially during a time of ecological crisis. The erosion of environmental protections undercuts both public trust and the health of our shared future.
