The proposal allows for the exemption of requirements for giving public notice and opportunities for comment, for proposals for provincial permits and approvals related to the Ontario Place redevelopment project. Proposals for these permits and approvals would otherwise be required to be posted to the Environmental Registry of Ontario.
This is another attack on democracy in my opinion and a dangerous centralization of powers.
The consequences of such legislation, in which Ontario seems to be rife with, is further erosion of our natural environment and the potential for unwanted developments by hiring companies completely out of site of public scrutiny.
I would like to see governments make use of environmentally friendly consultants to help with decisions when planning urban development.
It only makes common sense!
