I vehemently oppose Bill 5. This bill cannot pass. It is a short-sighted financial grab that will have devastating consequences on both Ontarians and the communities in which we live.
This bill:
-proposed a massive threat to animals that require protection for balanced ecosystems
-neglects Indigenous Peoples on whose land we reside
-puts public health at risk due to industrial regulations that will be eliminated
The proposed "special economic zones" sound horrific. It's 2025 and we know that environmental regulations save our communities from harm resulting from industrialization and development.
The "special economic zones" should be illegal and open to investigation from Federal environmental bodies.
I urge the Ontario government to withdraw Bill 5 in its entirety and instead work with environmental experts, Indigenous leaders and the public to strengthen — not dismantle — our systems of environmental protection.
Stop Bill 5 for the safety and health of all Ontarians.
