The identification of special economic zones in Ontario, the way it is described in Bill 5, is a far over-reaching of power. It is not clear where these zones may be implemented, for what reason, or how large they could be. I vehemently oppose these. All areas in Ontario need to follow due process and the laws, regulations, and policies applicable to the area. We need environmental protections in place to ensure a livable province for the people of Ontario for generations to come. This includes protection of wild species and wild places.
Bill 5 appears to come for the "Donald Trump playbook": willy-nilly executive orders. There needs to be proper oversight, checks and balances. We are not in a time of an emergency, such as a war (actual bombing) or global pandemic.
I strongly oppose Bill 5 in its entirety.
