I do not support the repeal of Ontario’s Endangered Species Act or the introduction of the Species Conservation Act, 2025. While streamlining processes may sound efficient, it should never come at the cost of environmental protection. Shifting to a "register-first, act-later" model puts vulnerable species at risk and weakens safeguards that were put in place for a reason.
Giving the government discretion to ignore independent scientific assessments and redefine habitat protections undermines both transparency and conservation. Ontario’s wildlife and ecosystems don’t get second chances. Once a species is gone, it’s gone. Economic growth must not come at the expense of biodiversity and environmental stewardship. We need stronger protections, not diluted ones.
