I don't think it's appropriate that you give government the power to remove species at risk from 'the list'. Why can't you let third parties in Ludington the At Risk group do this job? Second, you say you want to update/remove the word harass but you gave no reason. Why is this? The ESA act is meant to protect species at risk on our beautiful province of Ontario. It also protects their habitats from encroachment while giving the opportunity to citizens to have greenspace and nature to connect to. To become stewards of the land. This sounds like the movie Ferngully and you're bulldozing this act into oblivion while making your own rules. I'm.all for building Ontario but please...slow down, due your due diligence and let the experts help you navigate this.
10 years ago a small community group was formed in Stoney Creek to save the beloved turtle ponds. ESA and the protected Jefferson Salamander saved the lands the community loved and cared for. Last year a community group purchased the lands from the city and school board. It was Sherry's legacy and it finally happened. It wasn't a done deal.
Don't let Ontario be a done deal.
