This legislative change is shortsighted, and will not have the intended effect of speeding up the development of new housing in Ontario. I work in development planning, there are 10s of 1000s of housing units greenlit for development that developers are sitting on waiting for a market more conducive to profit. In most cases, developers only seek approval to have the land use in place so they can sell the lands at a higher rate. Limiting the way we look at habitat protection will simply allow developers to make more money faster, which seems to be the Ford government mandates.

Additionally, the bill will result in habitat loss, extinction, and extirpation of species. Not only will be harm animals, habitat loss also loses problems for humans and urban areas as wildlife runs out of livable environment. Toronto is currently experiencing this as coyotes who used to live at Ontario Place are now dispersing through the city.

This is a short sighted piece of legislation, and will only facilitate project which have little benefit to the average person. Only to those who can profit from land transactions.
